About Lois
Lois Commodore has matured into an internationally known singer and minister who is fast becoming an inspiration to other aspiring Caribbean artists and others who have a strong desire to pursue their music dreams. Lois is a scientist by profession but her divine profession is being a servant of God who ministers through song. Lois is married to her loving husband Dylan Parillon and has a wonderful son Nathan. She has served alongside faithful missionaries and ministers of the gospel in crusades and outreach services and has opened for major recording artists such as Tye Tribett, Judy Jacobs and Christafari and Monty G.
Lois was born in the beautiful island of Dominica in the West Indies. She felt the call of God on her life at the age of twelve. She started seriously ministering in 1990 as the lead singer of a group called The Zion Bound Singers which comprised of her best friends. Although they had only an acoustic guitar their harmony compensated for the absence of other musical instruments, creating a sound that was unique. The Zion Bound Singers traveled to almost every city in Dominica and other neighboring islands such as Martinique; St. Lucia, Antigua and St. Vincent; ministering in crusades and local prisons.
She left Dominica in 1995 to pursue a medical career in Boston, Massachusetts and after graduation decided to work as a scientist in the cancer research field because she was touched by the loss of a few friends who succumbed to the terrible disease. She became very successful in her scientific career but wanted to be more successful at music, her true passion. She became a member of a contemporary American gospel youth choir called Power Praise established by Minister Joy Turner Hill (Potter’s House) and producer Leroix Hampton 111. This experience helped to develop her musical technique and expand her knowledge of the music industry. Their style ranged from Contemporary Gospel, to Jazz, R&B and Hip Hop. They were honored to minister in the Symphony Hall with the Temptations, and at the Bay State Games before Senator Hilary Clinton at a fundraising event. Lois participated actively in recording sessions for the group and other artists. Later,
she became a member of a Black / Jewish group called The Freedom Music Project with folk singer Perry Smilow
She learned to sing many Jewish songs and expand her versatility by participating in studio recordings with The Freedom Music Project, Bobby Perry.
In 2007, Lois partnered with best friend and songwriter Kevin Vetiac to record her debut album titled Hold Me. The album consists of their original songs which are a mixture of jazz, acoustic and contemporary songs. They equally contributed to the writing and development of the project and have received many opportunities to minister internationally and within the US.
In May 2015, Lois released her sophomore album Metamorphosis. This album is fresh, creative and up-beat. It celebrates healing forgiveness and happiness. Metamorphosis is the conformation that we all go through on our journey in this life as we encounter its various stages, phases and changes. Lois partnered with the accomplished yet humble producer/ musician Edmund Angol of Dominica who infused creative lyrics, catchy beats and musical expertise into this project. Other talented producers such as Mark G, Felix Mwangi and Kamau Georges were also instrumental in making Metamorphosis. Talented artists such as Herman Weathersby, Pastor Rez and Andrew G. are also featured on this album. She released her first single from Metamorphosis "King of Glory" and music video "Good Day". Lois has founded two important endeavors: Love Word which is a Publishing/ Production Company which is geared toward music publishing and the Soldiers of Destiny Scholarship Foundation in honor of her late father Benoit Commodore. The Soldiers of Destiny Foundation focuses on assisting underprivileged individuals from single parent households. Since Lois was raised in a single parent household by her father, her heart understands the challenges that individuals from a single parent family face.
Lois encountered many obstacles such as being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, kidney failure and the loss of her beloved father however; she has overcome and has a powerful testimony about how the Mighty God healed her from slavery to medication, chronic illness and the negative reports of physicians. These painful experiences brought about a change and revival not only in her body but in her ministry. Her name has been changed to “Lois: The Healed of The Lord”. Lois’ mission is to share the gospel, reflect the love of God through music and be a living testimony of the healing power of God. She is prepared to fulfill her God-ordained destiny by bringing comfort, peace, and restoration through her music.
“Ever so often, an artist comes along that redefines a particular music genre and becomes the plumb-line against which other music must measure up. That’s exactly what Lois Commodore has done for gospel music with the release of what is sure to become two new hit singles from her yet untitled album: Good Day and King of Glory. Released on Loveword Music in December, Good Day and King of Glory have been described as “refreshingly different, uplifting music that inspires [listeners] to sing and dance”. The project features a fusion of authentic Afro-Caribbean rhythms and soulful vocals. ”
